It takes teamwork to make the dream work

OAC Weekly Snapshot, April 28-May 2

by | May 02, 2014
Sometimes, encouraging students to aspire to post-secondary education can be as simple as talking to them about where YOU went to college. This is the idea behind #ReachHigher, an initiative from the U.S. Department of Education and First Lady Michelle Obama asking people to wear their college gear today, May 2, to help inspire more students to apply for college. Are you sporting your college gear today? Do you have college banners hanging in your school? If so, Tweet us a picture using the hashtags #ReachHigher and #WeAreOAC!

Here are some highlights and reminders to kick-off the month of May.

  • Join OAC Twitter Chats, Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
Big thanks to Maysville's own Krissy Machamer (@Kmachamer) who moderated this week's #OACTeach Twitter chat on the topic of growth measures, SLOs, and data. Participants shared information about the assessments used to measure student growth, how data is shared in districts, and how educators curate and share best practices.

In case you missed it, an archive is posted on the OAC Twitter Chat discussion thread on the Collaboration Space.

We look forward to seeing more OAC educators jump in next week!

  • OAC Professional Practice Badges

Have you started your Share and Tweet badge? If not, you are missing out! Congratulations to the nearly 50 OAC educators have earned the Share and Tweet Badges (representing nearly half of the OAC districts), with lots more working through the badge tasks. More details about how you can earn the Share and Tweet badges can be found in this Connecting, Learning, and Sharing blog post from Julie Vujevich.

If you have completed a badge, don't forget to share this new resource for PD with your colleagues. Help us spread the word and grow the conversation!

New Resources and Discussions

  • Best Practices for Personalized Learning
Through the Share badge, OAC educators are implementing and sharing their experiences with different personalized learning practices. Even if you haven't started your Share badge, you can still get some great ideas for how to incorporate personalized learning in your classroom. Check out the PL Share Badge: Sharing Best Practices discussion.

  • OAC Collaboration Space EnhancementsOAC Collaboration Space
You may notice the OAC Collaboration Space homepage is looking a little different! We're making enhancements to accommodate the Straight A grant work and better help you find the information you need.

We're also working to add buttons to help you access specific collaboration tools, such as discussions for the Straight A Grant, Professional Development Coordinators, Performance Management, and the SLO/Assessment Literacy Collaboration Space made available through Ohio TIF.

If you have any questions or suggestions for Collaboration Space enhancements, contact Julie Vujevich at jvujevich@battelleforkids.org
