We hope you had a great short week and were able to stay warm! Here are some highlights:

  • OAC Districts Featured in Race to the Top News & Views – Congratulations to Franklin Local, Coshocton City, and Crooksville Exempted Village Schools for being recognized in ODE's Race to the Top News & Views for demonstrating success and leading to increase student achievement, deepen community involvement, and increase collaboration in their schools. Batavia Local Schools was also recognized for their partnership with Battelle for Kids (BFK), through their work with the OAC and Ohio TIF, to offer teachers a unique professional development opportunity focused on BFK's highly effective teacher and powerful practice research. Read more here. Proof that pushing boundaries, unique opportunities, and hard work go a long way for our educators and students. Way to go, everyone!

  • OAC and Rural Education Forum White Papers – We are very pleased to share two new white papers with you. The first, The Ohio Appalachian Collaborative: Paving a New Path for Rural Education, tells the story of the OAC, our work, and our successes. Many OAC educators are featured throughout this white paper sharing the many ways they have benefited from our work together. The second, Making Rural Education Work for Our Children and Our Future, outlines basic moves for reversing brain drain, growing rural economies, and connecting education with economic and civic leadership. This white paper was informed by the dialogue at the Rural Education National Forum co-hosted by the Ohio Department of Education and feedback provided by attendees. We encourage you to share these papers with your colleagues and communities through email, social media (using the hashtag #ruraled), websites, meetings, and any other ways you see fit. Thank you for your contributions to these papers and for helping to spread the word. Together, we can make a difference.
