It takes teamwork to make the dream work

OAC Weekly Snapshot, January 6-10

by | Jan 10, 2014
Welcome back, everyone! We hope you had a great (extended) break and are getting back into the groove of things after all these snow days and delays. Here are some highlights from this week:

Highlights

  • Dual Enrollment—Helping to Prepare Students for Success after High School – Since 2010, the number of OAC students enrolled in dual enrollment courses increased by 186 percent, from 457 students to 1,308 students. Learn more about the OAC's focus on dual enrollment and the steps we've taken to increase opportunities for students in this blog post by Pam Noeth.
  • Top 5 OAC Blog Posts of 2013 – Have you been following the OAC blog? In addition to the weekly snapshots, we also use the blog to highlight our work and best practices. Check out the five most popular blog posts of 2013! If you are interested in writing a guest blog post, please contact Julie Vujevich.

  • CLP Monthly Meeting –  Due to weather, the CLP monthly meeting scheduled for January 8 was canceled. We look forward to connecting with CLPs at the LLC Workshop next week and our next monthly meeting in February. As always, thanks for all you do, CLPs!

New Resources and Discussions

Discussions and resources continue to grow on the OAC Collaboration Space (use your Ohio Portal username and password to log in). We encourage you to explore and share this space with your OAC/TIF peers. Here are some of the latest conversations and resources, including a few shared through the OAC blog and Twitter @OHAppCollab:

  • Why Connect? A Connected Educator's Story – Krissy Machamer (@kmachamer) shared an article featuring one connected educator's story and shares her own experience, including what's in it for her. Take a look and share your own Personal Learning Network experience.

  • Got Field Trips? – Unfortunately budgets and time don't allow for as many field trips as you may want to plan for your students, but that doesn't have to limit you. Why not take a virtual field trip? Amanda Pierce (@acolerpierce) has shared virtual field trip ideas from the Teach123 blog. Have any virtual field trip resources? Add to the discussion.

  • Southeastern Region Spanish Collaboration – A group of OAC Spanish teachers met on December 20 to collaborate and share with each other. Nellie Bunting (@nellieb223) shared a resource that came out of that meeting here. Don't forget, there's a discussion specifically for Spanish teachers on the Collaboration Space. Please share!

What's Next?

  • Leading and Learning Collaborative (LLC) Workshop – The next LLC Workshop is on January 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark, Ohio. View the program. If you haven't registered yet, click here. Each OAC/TIF district can bring up to six people to the workshop. Join the conversation on Twitter leading up to and during the event using the hashtag #BFKSOAR. Hope to see you there!

  • OAC/TIF Principals Collaborative – The next session of the OAC Principals Collaborative will be held February 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Agriculture. This program provides a powerful experience for rural principals to learn, share, and collaborate in sessions directly connected to their work and experiences within the OAC. OAC/TIF principals will participate in learning sessions specific to the principalship, collaborate on common issues and challenges from the field, and share best practices and tools. Registration is coming soon.
