OAC Weekly Snapshot, October 28 - November 1

by | Nov 04, 2013
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and remembered to change your clocks back! Our weekly snapshot is coming to you a little late because we were at the Rural Education National Forum on Friday, but here's what we were up to last week:

Highlights

  • Rural Education National Forum – Nearly 300 educators and community partners from 15 states gathered for the first Rural Education National Forum October 31–November 1 in Columbus, Ohio. It was exciting to hear U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, speak about the importance of education and opportunities in rural communities, and recognize the innovative efforts of the OAC and Battelle for Kids. Learning sessions focused on increasing access to advanced learning and effective instruction in rural areas; collaborative strategies and structures that increase influence and strengthen community engagement; and connecting schools, jobs, and communities for rural prosperity. OAC was well represented at the event. Big thanks to all who attended and presented! If you missed it, there was a lot of conversation on Twitter during the event. Search the hashtag #RuralEdForum to see what people were talking about. We also encourage you to share your biggest takeaway from the event in the comments below.

  • Connected Educator Month – It was exciting to see all the digital and social media activity for Connected Educator Month in October. Educators from across the nation were connecting and sharing experiences, tools, and resources around the use of technology in schools and classrooms and to enhance professional networking, learning, and growth. Throughout the month, we highlighted five OAC connected educators on our blog, including Joel Moore (@RVCPrincipal), Krissy Machamer (@kmachamer), Christopher Burrows (@cburrows22), Amanda Pierce (@acolerpierce), and Robert Dodd (@NLHSprincipal). Thanks to each of them for sharing their experiences and advice to others! Did you participate in any Connected Educator Month activities, or have a "connected" experience you'd like to share?
