Here's what we've been up to this week:

Highlights

  • Connected Educator Month – In celebration of Connected Educator Month, we are recognizing a few OAC educators who are using digital and social media to build relationships, share knowledge, and enhance their own professional learning. This week's Connected Educator Spotlight features Amanda Pierce (@acolerpierce), 5th grade teacher at Morgan West Elementary School. Learn more about her experiences and advice to others in this blog post.

  • Principals, We Need Your Feedback – During the Principals Collaborative meeting on October 10, there was a request for sharing principal SLOs. Do any of you have an SLO you are willing to share? Please participate in the discussion on the Collaboration Space (use your Ohio Portal username and password to login), or go here to upload a resource.

We are also collecting feedback regarding building-level OTES implementation. If you have a strategy or experience to share, please add to this discussion on the Collaboration Space or contact Tracy Najera.

  • Grant Opportunity  – The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio is offering ICAN! Classroom Enrichment Mini-Grants to support the efforts of teachers across the region in connecting their classrooms with Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Medicine (STEMM) related businesses and professions. For more information and to access the application, go here. Act fast! The deadline to apply is October 28
  • Rural Education National Forum, October 31–November 1 – We're looking forward to seeing many of you at the Rural Education National Forum next week. There's a great line-up of speakers and learning sessions, and many OAC districts are presenting. View the program. We'll be live tweeting from the event. Follow along and join the conversation using the hashtag #RuralEdForum. And, if you aren't following the OAC on Twitter yet, please do so @OHAppCollab.

  • Regional CLP Meetings – Our CLLs have been on the road the past few weeks with regional CLP meetings, and the last one wrapped up today. At these meetings we had some good discussions about data, dual enrollment, credentialing, connecting teachers, and previewed the November LLC workshop. Thanks CLPs, as always, for your great work!

Interesting Resources

  • RSS—What Is It? – Many of you have asked us what are RSS readers and why would you use them. Read this blog post to learn more about RSS, how it can help save you time by delivering content to you in an easily digestible format, and steps to get started.

  • Improve Your PLN: Must Know Twitter Hashtags for Administrators – This EdTechReview article by Santosh Bhaskar K shares the importance of using hashtags to connect to other school administrators, share resources and tools, and collaborate around common topics. And, you'll find a list of hashtags specifically for administrators.

  • OAC Communication and Collaboration Tools – Don't forget about the guides and supporting materials available to you for the new communication and collaboration tools. Our goal is for every OAC educator to know what tools are available to them, how to find them, and understand the basics of using them. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with questions by leaving a comment below, starting a discussion on the Collaboration Space, or send a tweet to @OHAppCollab.
