Here's what we've been up to this week:

Highlights

  • OAC School Districts Recognized by the Ohio Department of Education – On October 16, ODE recognized nearly 150 Ohio schools for sustaining high academic achievement among students, including many from economically disadvantaged homes. Five OAC districts were among the schools recognized. Congratulations to Franklin Local (@FranklinLocal), Maysville Local (@MaysvilleSchool), Northern Local, New Boston Local, and Valley Local! Read the press release here. Way to go!
  • Connected Educator Month – In celebration of Connected Educator Month, we are recognizing a few OAC educators who are using digital and social media to build relationships, share knowledge, and enhance their own professional learning. This week's Connected Educator Spotlight features Christopher Burrows (@cburrows22), Superintendent at Georgetown Exempted Village Schools. Learn more about his experiences and advice to others in this blog post.
  • Last Chance to Register for the Rural Education National Forum, October 31–November 1 – This two-day forum focuses on the collaborative process of connecting effective educators, communities, and economic development efforts for rural prosperity. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be speaking at the event, along with a great lineup of keynote speakers. Don't miss your chance to attend this event. Registration closes October 21. For more information and to register, click here. Join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #RuralEdForum.

Interesting Resources

  • New Discussions for OAC/TIF Principals – Principals, we need your feedback! During the Principals Collaborative meeting on October 10, there was a request for sharing principal SLOs. Do any of you have an SLO you are willing to share? Please participate in the discussion on the Collaboration Space (use your Ohio Portal username and password to login), or go here to upload a resource.

We are also collecting feedback regarding building-level OTES implementation. If you have a strategy or experience to share, please add to this discussion on the Collaboration Space or contact Tracy Najera.

  • How to Create Social Media Guidelines for your School – Need help creating a social media policy? Download this free guide from Edutopia. It includes seven steps for creating a policy and valuable resources for safely using social media in your schools and classrooms.

  • RSS Readers – A few of you have asked about RSS readers and how they can help save you time by delivering information in a way that makes it easy to digest. And don't forget, you can sign up for an RSS feed to get updates from the OAC blog. Need a tutorial to get started? Check out this RSS in Plain English video posted in the discussion forum.

  • OAC Communication and Collaboration Tools – Don't forget about the guides and supporting materials available to you for the new communication and collaboration tools. Our goal is for every OAC educator to know what tools are available to them, how to find them, and understand the basics of using them. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with questions by leaving a comment below, starting a discussion on the Collaboration Space, or send a tweet to @OHAppCollab.
