It takes teamwork to make the dream work

OAC Weekly Snapshot, September 23-27

by | Sep 27, 2013
Hope you all had a great week! Here's what we've been up to:

Highlights

  • Connected Educator Month – As digital and social media continues to evolve and grow, it's easier than ever to connect with people who have similar interests, enhance learning, and share knowledge. More and more, educators are embracing these tools to establish their own personal learning networks in an effort to increase their own effectiveness to positively impact student success.

October is Connected Educator Month, as part of the U.S. Deparment of Education's Connected Educator initiative. Throughout the month, connected educators will share their experiences and provide support and encouragement for educators who want to become connected.

Please watch the OAC blog throughout October. Each week, we'll highlight an OAC connected educator and share his/her experiences and tools. You can also visit our Collaboration Space (use your Ohio Portal username and password) to share resources, tools, and your experiences with being a connected educator.

  • "Connecting the Connectors" Day – On October 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Agriculture, OAC Personalized Learning Network connectors from all grade levels will meet to learn more about our personalized learning vision, understand connections to OAC initiatives, and define where each district fits within our personalized learning continuum. Connectors will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other connectors. What a great way to kick off Connected Educator Month! If you aren't registered yet, go here to register.
  • Rural Education National Forum, October 31–November 1 – Are you registered for the Rural Education National Forum? We strongly encourage all OAC districts to attend. The Forum is designed to highlight powerful instruction and leadership practices in rural districts, focus strategic conversations around rural opportunities and challenges with national and local experts, and build a network for collaboration among education, community, and business leaders. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be speaking at the event, along with a great lineup of keynote speakers. • Twitter Bootcamp – Interested in getting started on Twitter, but don't know how? Twitter Bootcamp features a 28-day crash course that gets you up and running and explains the basics. Thanks to Krissy Machamer (@KMachamer), Maysville CLP, for sharing!
  • OAC Communication and Collaboration Tools – Don't forget about the guides and supporting materials available to you for the new communication and collaboration tools. Our goal is for every OAC educator to know what tools are available to them, how to find them, and understand the basics of using them.
