It takes teamwork to make the dream work

OAC Weekly Snapshot, September 16-20

by | Sep 20, 2013
It was great to connect with many of our OAC educators at the LLC Workshop on Wednesday. Thanks to all who came!

Here's a summary of our week:

  • LLC Workshop – Nearly 300 SOAR and OAC educators joined us for the first Leading and Learning Collaborative Workshop on September 18. These workshops provide a way for educators to learn and collaborate about implementing powerful strategies to increase educator effectiveness through leading and learning.

Throughout the day, sessions covered a variety of topics, including highly effective strategies, multi-tiered support systems, Common Core and PARCC, FIP, highly effective teams, and more. OAC educators also had the chance to participate in collaborative sessions about OAC initiatives, including personalized learning and college- and career-readiness, and superintendents participated in a session tailored specifically to them.

Thanks to everyone who tweeted thoughts and ideas from the LLC Workshop. Check out the conversation by searching for the hashtag #BFKSOAR.

There is an LLC Workshop Discussion Forum on the Collaboration Space with links to materials from the workshop
. Please share your event highlights in the comments below.

Don't forget, the next LLC Workshop will be November 19. Click here to register.

  • Rural Education National Forum, October 31–November 1 – Are you registered for the Rural Education National Forum? We strongly encourage all OAC districts to attend. The Forum is designed to highlight powerful instruction and leadership practices in rural districts, focus strategic conversations around rural opportunities and challenges with national and local experts, and build a network for collaboration among education, community, and business leaders. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be speaking at the event, along with a great line up of keynote speakers. For more information and to register, click here.

  • Building Bridges to Careers – Building Bridges to Careers (BBC) was created to bring business, community, and education leaders together to positively impact education and the local economy. Through this initiative educators and local businesses are working together to connect real life work scenarios with education in order to better prepare students for success in college, careers, and life. BBC was founded by Marietta City Schools and Washington County Family and Children First through Marietta's participation in the OAC. For more information, visit the new BBC website. If you are interested in participating, please contact Tasha Werry.
