OAC Weekly Snapshot, September 9-13

Hope you all had a great week. Here's what we've been up to:


  • Superintendents' Webinar – On September 9, we held the first Superintendents' Webinar of the year, sharing information about the OAC Principals Collaborative, logic models and strategy maps, the Literacy Design Collaborative, dual enrollment, Personalized Learning Network, and much more. Visit our Collaboration Space to download the presentation (use your Ohio Portal username and password to login). The next webinar will take place Monday, October 7 from noon to 12:30 p.m.
  • CLP Meeting – We had a very productive CLP meeting on September 11. The morning consisted of a series of round table discussions focused on ACT QualityCore, strategic measures, and communications, and the afternoon was reserved for collaboration time within thought leadership groups. During the meeting there was lots of activity on the Collaboration Space, including new discussions on Common Core State Standards and PARCC and assessment literacy, as well as new resources. We are thrilled to see the Collaboration Space put to good use. Thank you, CLPs, for all you do!
  • LLC Workshop, September 18 We are looking forward to the first Leading and Learning Collaborative Workshop next week at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark, Ohio. Read our blog post for more information about the LLC Workshops and click here to download the event program. We also encourage you to join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #BFKSOAR leading up to and during the event. 
  • Rural Education National Forum, October 31–November 1 – Are you registered for the Rural Education National Forum? U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be speaking at the event, along with a great line up of keynote speakers. This Forum is designed to highlight powerful instructional and leadership practices in rural districts, focus strategic conversations around rural opportunities and challenges with national and local experts, and build a network for collaboration among education, community, and business leaders. We encourage all OAC districts to attend. It'll be the perfect place to share our great work and learn from others with similar challenges. Click here for more information and to register
  • Our Districts are Proud Members of the OAC – All 21 OAC districts now have the Proud Member of the OAC button and/or information about the OAC on their district websites. A big thank you to all of you for showing your support and OAC pride!

Interesting Resources

  • Student Growth Data Sources – This resource on the OAC Collaboration Space (use your Ohio Portal username and password to login), developed by the CLP Strategic Measures Thought Leadership Group, includes a list of tools that can be used to collect data in the classroom, including the purpose of each tool and the grade the assessment is given. 
  • Data Discussion Guide – This resource, developed by the CLP Strategic Measures Thought Leadership Group, is designed to help facilitate team discussions around student data. Use these questions to help guide your data discussion to help determine if you've collected the appropriate data and to help identify additional data needs.
  • OAC Communication and Collaboration Tools – Don't forget about the guides and supporting materials available to you for the new communication and collaboration tools. Our goal is for every OAC educator to know what tools are available to them, how to find them, and understand the basics of using them.   • Leading and Learning Collaborative Workshop – The first LLC Workshop is September 18 at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark, Ohio. Read this blog post for more information. 
  • Principals Webinar – The first OAC Principals Webinar will be September 26 from 10 - 11 a.m. View the webinar series flyer for more information. Login information will be emailed to OAC principals.
  • Superintendents Webinar – The next Superintendents Webinar will be October 7 from noon to 12:30 p.m. Login information will be emailed to OAC superintendents.
  • Principals Collaborative – The Principals Collaborative will kick off the year October 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Agriculture. This program will provide a powerful experience for rural principals to learn, share, and collaborate in sessions directly connected to their work and experiences within the OAC. OAC-TIF principals will discuss specific topics pertinent to the principalship, collaborate on common issues and challenges, and share best practices and tools.   • Rural Education National Forum – The early bird registration deadline for the Rural Education National Forum ends today. Battelle for Kids and the Ohio Department of Education are hosting the Forum in Columbus, Ohio, October 31–November 1. Find more information and register here.
