Welcome to August! Is it possible August is already here?

Here's what we've been up to this week:

Highlights

  • CLP Retreat - We spent two days this week with our Collaborative Learning Practitioners (CLPs) planning for the upcoming school year. This year, five Thought Leadership Groups have been formed around strategic measures, college and career readiness, personalized learning network, next generation assessments (including PARCC and Common Core), leadership, and formative instructional practices (and assessment literacy). Throughout the year, we'll collaborate, learn, share, and problem solve around these topics. Expect more information from our CLPs in the upcoming months.
  • From Appalachia to Australia - Three teachers from New Lexington Middle School, an Ohio TIF district, have had a busy and inspiring week in Australia visiting three schools who have implemented Quality Learning Tools. Their trip was made possible through a Rural Trust Global Teacher Fellowship grant. You can follow their journey through their blog. They’ll be home before we know it on August 4.

Interesting Resources

  • Educational Twitter Chat Schedule - @thomascmurray, @cevans5095, and @cybraryman1 compiled and shared a list educational Twitter chats, including hashtag, topic, day and time. You can find it here. If you are new to Twitter, a Twitter chat is a great way to get your feet wet.
  • Social Media Isn't Just for Socializing - Joel Moore, Principal at Conesville Elementary School of River View Local School District, shared a blog post about using social media for professional learning. Read it here. Do you agree? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

What’s Next?

  • TIF Coordinator Kick-Off Meeting - TIF Coordinators, Superintendents, Union Reps, and Treasurers will meet at Battelle for Kids for the Year 4 kick-off meeting on Aug. 7.
  • Leading and Learning Collaborative - The first LLC workshop of the year will take place Sept. 18. We’ll be sharing more information about this event in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
  • National Rural Education Forum - Battelle for Kids and the Ohio Department of Education are hosting the National Rural Education Forum in Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 31–Nov. 1. Find more information here.
One more shout out to our CLPs. It takes teamwork to make the dream work, as our blog tagline says, and the past two days were a great example of collaboration, dedication, and determination. Thanks for all you do!

Happy weekend!
