It takes teamwork to make the dream work

OAC Weekly Snapshot, July 22-26

Here’s a quick snapshot of our week:

  • Working Together to Stay Ahead of the Curve – One of our key values is working together to stay ahead of the curve, to know what’s coming and how to prepare. OAC and Ohio TIF districts did just that by working together on innovative approaches to implementing OTES ahead of the rest of the state. This article in the Zanesville Times Recorder highlights the work of Franklin and West Muskingum Local School districts.
  • From Appalachia to Australia – Three teachers from New Lexington Middle School, an Ohio TIF district, received a Rural Trust Global Teacher Fellowship grant to visit schools in Australia that utilize Quality Learning on a regular basis. They left for the “Land Down Under” on July 25 and will return August 4. They’ll be blogging about their experience and you can follow along here. Congrats to Kristen Laveric, Angie Fondale and Kathleen Baker. We can’t wait to hear about your journey!
  • OAC in the News – OAC districts were mentioned in an Ohio Farm Bureau article about working with Battelle for Kids to help prepare kids for successful futures. Read the article here. We’re happy to see our work being shared.

Interesting Resources

  • PARCC Test Costs Here’s important information about PARCC test costs and content for the math and ELA tests. Questions? Tweet them using the hashtag #askparcc.
  • Ohio School Districts on Twitter – Ohio School Boards is working to create a list of Ohio school districts on Twitter. The list can be found here. If your district is on Twitter, you should definitely make sure you’re on this list. It’s a great way to share what your district is up to with the rest of the state. Tweet @ohschoolboards to let them know. We see several OAC and Ohio TIF districts are already on the list, including Georgetown (@GEVSD), Rolling Hills (@RHLSD_Colts), Maysville (@MaysvilleSchool), and Cincinnati Public (@IamCPS).

What’s Next?

  • CLP Retreat - We’ll see you all August 1-2 at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark!
  • TIF Coordinator Kick-Off Meeting - TIF Coordinators, Superintendents, Union Reps, and Treasurers will meet at Battelle for Kids for the Year 4 kick-off meeting on Aug. 7.
  • Leading and Learning Collaborative - The first LLC workshop of the year will take place September 18. We’ll be sharing more information about this event in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
  • National Rural Education Forum - Battelle for Kids and the Ohio Department of Education are hosting the National Rural Education Forum in Columbus, Ohio Oct. 31–Nov. 1. Find more information here.
In case you missed it, check out our “Blogging and Education” blog post from earlier this week. We’d like your help in creating a list of educational blogs for OAC educators. Please share your blog, if you have one, or blogs you may follow. You can do so through the comments below or send @OHAppCollab a tweet.

Happy weekend!
