REACHING EVERY STUDENT

The Reaching Every Student modules complement the Foundations of Formative Instructional Practices and FIP in Action modules by providing relevant learning for those who teach English Language Learners, students with disabilities, and gifted students. You will see these practices in action, explore ideas specific to each population of students, and gain valuable insights that can be applied in your classroom.

This module is intended to help classroom teachers interested in improving instruction for their students that are learning English, as well as for ELL teachers who may be beginning their FIP journey. This module deepens teachers' understanding of how to best meet the needs of ELL students by using formative instructional practices (FIP) to maximize their achievement and growth.

This module is intended to help classroom teachers interested in improving instruction for their students with disabilities (SWD), as well as intervention specialists who may be beginning their FIP journey. This module deepens teachers' understanding of how to best meet the needs of students with a range of special needs by using formative instructional practices (FIP) to maximize their achievement and growth.

After completing the Reaching English Language Learners module, you will:
  • Know how to identify the learning needs of English language learners (ELL).
  • Know how to use formative instructional practices with ELL students.
  • Be able to identify several tools to help you differentiate instruction and make assessment accommodations for ELL students.
  • Be able to apply formative instructional practices and ELL strategies from this module to a classroom scenario and to your own classroom.

Approximate time to complete: 1.5–2 hours

After completing the Reaching Gifted Students module, you will:
  • Understand how formative instructional practices benefit gifted learners.
  • Understand how to use the four components of formative instructional practices to advance the learning of your gifted students.

In Reaching Students with Disabilities, you will learn to:
  • Understand how formative instructional practices benefit students with disabilities.
  • Understand how to use the four core components of formative instructional practices to advance the learning of your students with disabilities.
